Back to school time! Summertime seems to be going faster the older I get! A lot of times, for adults, we think of “back to school” as applying only to our children. But what about the rest of us? Have we stopped learning? How can we keep learning and living our Catholic faith? Our National Eucharistic Revival goes on for a purpose!
“The Jews quarreled among themselves,” in today’s Gospel, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” How would you answer that question? How does Jesus give us his flesh to eat? Well, what happens when we eat and drink? We take in the elements of the food, and the food becomes part of our fiber and being. Jesus wants to share His own fiber and being with us - GOD - and for that to happen we have to take in who He is! This is totally unique, and we should experience it as unique! Unless Jesus gave us a way to be actually inside us, He would be just an abstraction. The Holy Eucharist is Jesus’ way to remain in us and for us to remain in Him.
For the last four weeks, our Sunday Gospel has taken us into the sixth chapter of Saint John; the core of our belief in Jesus in Holy Communion is found there. No other figure in all of human history gives us what Jesus gives us in Holy Communion. That’s because Jesus is God! It’s only in Jesus in Holy Communion that we find such a complete and total gift of God giving to us and then leading us to give ourselves completely to others. Aren’t you glad you’re Catholic! What a miracle! What an adventure!
“Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day.” Eternal life is more than just life after death. Eternal life is being in the immediate presence of God as we are in Holy Communion.
Keep on reading chapter 6 of Saint John’s Gospel. Invite a friend or family member who is not Catholic to read it with you. “Back to school” doesn’t just apply to our children but to all of us all of us!

¡Vuelta al cole! Parece que el verano pasa más rápido cuanto mayor me hago. Muchas veces, los adultos pensamos que la "vuelta al cole" sólo afecta a nuestros hijos. ¿Pero qué pasa con el resto de nosotros? ¿Hemos dejado de aprender? ¿Cómo podemos seguir aprendiendo y viviendo nuestra fe católica? ¡Nuestro Renacimiento Eucarístico Nacional continúa con un propósito!
"Los judíos se pusieron a discutir entre sí", en el Evangelio de hoy: "¿Cómo puede éste darnos a comer su carne?". ¿Cómo responderías tú a esa pregunta? ¿Cómo puede Jesús darnos a comer su carne? ¿Qué ocurre cuando comemos y bebemos? Tomamos los elementos de la comida, y la comida se convierte en parte de nuestra fibra y de nuestro ser. Jesús quiere compartir su propia fibra y ser con nosotros - DIOS - y para que eso suceda ¡tenemos que asimilar quién es Él! Esto es totalmente único, ¡y debemos experimentarlo como único! A menos que Jesús nos diera una manera de estar realmente dentro de nosotros, Él sería sólo una abstracción. La Sagrada Eucaristía es el modo que tiene Jesús de permanecer en nosotros y de que nosotros permanezcamos en Él.
Durante las últimas cuatro semanas, nuestro Evangelio dominical nos ha llevado al capítulo sexto de San Juan; el núcleo de nuestra creencia en Jesús en la Sagrada Comunión se encuentra allí. Ninguna otra figura en toda la historia de la humanidad nos da lo que Jesús nos da en la Sagrada Comunión. Porque Jesús es Dios. Sólo en Jesús en la Sagrada Comunión encontramos un don tan completo y total de Dios dándonos a nosotros y luego llevándonos a darnos completamente a los demás. ¿No te alegras de ser católico? ¡Qué milagro! ¡Qué aventura!
"Si no comen la carne del Hijo del hombre y no beben su sangre, no podrán tener vida en ustedes. El que come mi carne y bebe mi sangre tiene vida eterna, y yo lo resucitaré el último día." La vida eterna es algo más que la vida después de la muerte. La vida eterna es estar en la presencia inmediata de Dios como lo estamos en la Sagrada Comunión.
Sigue leyendo el capítulo 6 del Evangelio de San Juan. Invita a un amigo o familiar que no sea católico a leerlo contigo. La "vuelta al cole" no se aplica sólo a nuestros hijos, ¡sino a todos nosotros!
