With all the beneficial rain that we have been having, everything is so green and lush! What a beautiful place to live, isn’t it? During this Ordinary Time of the year, we call it, a green season, in the life of the church. Our Bible readings today, take us to nature with tender parables of Jesus.
Any farmer, gardener, rancher, knows we have to be patient. We can't really control much. We do our part, but we depend on so much more. Every tree, every flower, every little animal is a miracle of God's handiwork. We have to trust God to give us growth. As Jesus tells us, growth in the Kingdom of God will be greater than we can even imagine!
On this Father’s Day I’m thinking of our fathers who are farmers, gardeners, and ranchers in our parish. They speak of creation with a certain awe and humility. Seeds sprout, flowers bloom, birds migrate. The farmers, gardeners, and ranchers have a lot to teach the rest of us. Not only do we depend on them for food, we can learn from their faith. Farming, gardening, and ranching, take a very intimate cooperation with God. Creation is everywhere. We do just a little. God takes care of the rest, somehow, in God’s timing.
There is a deep life of faith in farming and ranching families. You have to have faith to be a farmer or rancher. "We walk by faith, and not by sight!" Farm and rancher families approach their work with deep prayer, especially when it comes to the weather. They depend on good crops, and God is there, looking down, and they pray for good crops, but they don't always get good crops, yet they survive. God takes care of it. Somehow, in God’s time.
The connection between faith and farming is expressed in parenting as well. All fathers (and mothers) teach responsibility, cooperation and hard work to their children. The greatest responsibility parents have is to prepare their children for eternal life. Farm families and ranchers have a special way of doing it.
I am not a farmer or rancher, but I am so happy to be celebrating 28 years as a Father with you this weekend! Let’s keep on sowing the seeds of faith together with our children and patiently wait for the great harvest to come. Happy Father’s Day!

Con todas las lluvias beneficiosas que hemos tenido, ¡todo está tan verde y exuberante! Qué hermoso lugar para vivir, ¿verdad? Durante este Tiempo Ordinario del año, lo llamamos, una estación verde, en la vida de la iglesia. Nuestras lecturas bíblicas de hoy, nos llevan a la naturaleza con tiernas parábolas de Jesús.
Cualquier agricultor, jardinero, ganadero, sabe que tenemos que ser pacientes. Realmente no podemos controlar mucho. Nosotros hacemos nuestra parte, pero dependemos de mucho más. Cada árbol, cada flor, cada animalito es un milagro de la mano de Dios. Tenemos que confiar en que Dios nos dará crecimiento. Como Jesús nos dice, ¡el crecimiento en el Reino de Dios será mayor de lo que podemos imaginar!
En este Día del Padre pienso en nuestros padres agricultores, jardineros y ganaderos de nuestra parroquia. Hablan de la creación con cierto asombro y humildad. Las semillas brotan, las flores florecen, los pájaros emigran. Los agricultores, jardineros y ganaderos tienen mucho que enseñarnos al resto de nosotros. No sólo dependemos de ellos para comer, sino que podemos aprender de su fe. La agricultura, la jardinería y la ganadería requieren una cooperación muy íntima con Dios. La creación está en todas partes. Nosotros hacemos sólo un poco. Dios se encarga del resto, de alguna manera, en el momento oportuno.
Hay una profunda vida de fe en las familias de agricultores y ganaderos. Hay que tener fe para ser agricultor o ganadero. "Caminamos por fe, y no por vista". Las familias de agricultores y ganaderos se enfrentan a su trabajo con una profunda oración, especialmente cuando se trata del tiempo. Dependen de buenas cosechas, y Dios está ahí, mirando hacia abajo, y rezan por buenas cosechas, pero no siempre obtienen buenas cosechas, y sin embargo sobreviven. Dios se ocupa de eso. De alguna manera, en el tiempo de Dios.
La conexión entre la fe y la agricultura se expresa también en la crianza de los hijos. Todos los padres (y madres) enseñan responsabilidad, cooperación y trabajo duro a sus hijos. La mayor responsabilidad de los padres es preparar a sus hijos para la vida eterna. Las familias de agricultores y ganaderos tienen una forma especial de hacerlo.
No soy agricultor ni ganadero, ¡pero estoy muy contento de celebrar 28 años como Padre con ustedes este fin de semana! Sigamos sembrando las semillas de la fe junto con nuestros hijos y esperemos pacientemente a que llegue la gran cosecha. ¡Feliz Día del Padre!
